Greetings!

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
(Romans 6:5)

During Lent, we pray the Stations of the Cross each Friday at 6:00 p.m. As we journey these final weeks of Lent and through Holy Week, we seek a union with Christ as he embraces vulnerability and compassion on his way to the cross.

Yet, even in the darkness of Lent, new signs of Easter's pending arrival appear in my office. Fourteen St. Mark's parishioners have created art that depicts the Stations of the Light, which will be located throughout the nave during the Easter season. (Read the "Visual Alleluias" article below for details.) The Stations of the Light liturgy recounts Jesus' new life as described in his resurrection appearances. They inspire contemplation, and we remember that Easter is too great a mystery to be contained in one Sunday.

In addition to our Holy Week services, you can walk the path of light all fifty days of Easter and encounter the risen One, through whom we know a love that "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, [and] endures all things" (1 Corinthians 13:7).

Your presence signals Easter, too. May your life be joined with Christ's new life in our celebration of the resurrection.

Elizabeth

March 30
The Rev. Anne Meroney will speak on the Christian Idea of the Afterlife.
St. Mark's is very excited to offer a new prayer tool:
the first St. Mark's Stations of the Light.

Fourteen St. Mark's artists have reflected on the liturgy of the Way of the Light and have created a visual presentation to be placed in the sanctuary during the 50 days of Easter this year.

A work of art has been created for each of the fourteen stations. These will be hung under the stain glass windows and beside the Stations of the Cross. A liturgy will be available for prayer and reflection. This will be a powerful visual Alleluia!! It is a prayer tool that will affirm Easter with its promise of hope, life and light in the Resurrection.

The public is invited. Beginning March 23rd, the hours will be Wed. evenings from 5:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. and Sun. evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Please set aside a time to experience this visual prayer during Easter. Walking and praying the Stations of the Cross during Lent will enhance the experience of the Way of the Light in Easter.

Anyone interested in hosting one of these times during Easter please contact the church office.

From The Vestry
Well the New Year is upon us and already in full swing. Budgeted pledges for fiscal 2008 are $330,000 and change. To balance the budget with all our hopes and desires it would be necessary to have pledges close to $360,000. Throughout the year your vestry will closely monitor the financial affairs of the parish and adjust and fine tune as necessary. The $330,000 2008 pledge number is less than what was pledged in 2007, but more than what was collected for the pledges made in 2007. Plate receipts in 2007 and the corresponding 2008 budget are both at $60,000. January collections are in line with the budget. To all of you, thank you again for being good stewards of Saint Marks.

Sincerely,
Bob Haverland, Finance and Stewardship
