COMMISSION REPORTS
Administration: Jim Halverson
Jim announced Laura Minor has resigned as Office Administrator and a search
is currently underway for a replacement. An in-depth discussion was held on
a job description for this position for now and in the future. One
consideration mentioned was Outreach Administrator/Secretary with church
office hours from 8:30 am. — 2:30 p.m. and 5 hours weekly to attend
community meetings and other pertinent events outside the church campus.
Dean gave a brief history of staff positions before the 1990’s when at
various times there was a Christian Education Director, fulltime secretary,
etc. Dean requested the Administration Commission prepare a self-assessment
for current staff positions and future positions (ex. Christian Ed Director)
to include in the 2008 budget proposal projection.
Outreach: Thierry Urbain
Thierry distributed information on the Interfaith Hospitality Network
program currently operating in 39 states. He and Dean gave a presentation on
this organization designed to actively assist homeless families find jobs
and permanent shelter. Dean has researched this entity and the program is
currently operating in Athens, Atlanta, Columbus and Savannah. The handout
explained in detail how the program is administered but basically each
participating church is responsible for hosting families for 1 week (a total
of 4 weeks per year) by providing nighttime shelter, breakfast, dinner and a
sack lunch. Thierry asked the vestry to read the available information and
vote at the next vestry meeting whether or not St Mark’s will participate in
this project. 13 churches are needed in Whitfield County for the project to
proceed. (Currently 6 local churches have agreed to be a part of this
program.) Thierry is on the Day Center Committee which is meeting July 9th
at St. Mark’s. The projected timeline before the program will begin is 1 — 1
1/2 years.
DEO has closed for the summer while preparations are in progress to move to
a North Hamilton Street location in the fall. Saturday, June 23rd is a work
day at the new center.
Finance and Stewardship: Bob Haverland
Bob distributed copies of the May, 2007 budget report. Although plate
receipts are 17% above to-date projection, pledge receipts are $28,565.83
below year-to-date collections, leaving a May 31 deficit of $22,792 92.
Statements will be sent to pledging units at the end of June. Expenses are
in line with projections with no major problems.
Bob Williams was thanked for his continued participation on the Stewardship
Commission. A June meeting is being planned for this committee.
Buildings: Jonathan Renfroe
Jonathan led a discussion concerning the current janitorial company and
hiring Ezekiel 20 hours per week. He has been doing various jobs when needed
for dinners and other activities and has done an excellent job remodeling
the restrooms off the reception area. No definite conclusion was reached.
Parish Life: Rose Renfroe
Rose read a note from Hebe Wall thanking the vestry for a successful
picnic on May 20th. The Low Country Boil is planned for Sunday, July 22nd at
6:30 p.m. This “adult only” function is $15.00.
The next vestry meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7th at 12:00 noon.
Dean adjourned with the
Benediction.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Yarbrough, Clerk |
